Mark Cohen resigned as General Counsel of the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) on June 7, 2018.
Mr. Cohen served as InterNACHI’s General Counsel for fourteen years. In that capacity he was responsible for the legal affairs of a nonprofit trade association that had more than 22,000 members and 30 employees when he resigned. He also served as General Counsel of the Master Inspector Certification Board.
During his time with InterNACHI, Mr. Cohen gained prominence as an expert in home inspection law. He represented InterNACHI in litigation in state and federal courts and before agencies such as the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and various state agencies. He spearheaded InterNACHI’s efforts to draft legal document in plain English rather than “Legalese.”
“I’m proud of what I did for InterNACHI, and prouder of what InterNACHI did for its members from a legal standpoint and for the industry and consumers,” Cohen said.
Upon resigning, Mr. Cohen agreed to serve as Special Counsel for Residential Warranty Services of Carmel, Indiana.
Mr. Cohen’s passion is drafting clear legal documents and helping clients resolve disputes arising out of poorly drafted documents (or the lack of any documents at all). His practice will continue to emphasize contracts, business, real estate, corporate veil law, home inspection law, trademark litigation, agricultural law, and related litigation. He will also continue to speak and write about the benefits of plain English.
